I have been intrigued by the Subway breakfast. It is healther with the egg white only (Optional) sandwiches it has. Over the past year or so since it has been out I have not tried it because I rarely eat breakfast out and if I do I have to go through a drive thru. I usually don't have the time to walk in a place and wait. Today I had time and Subway has a 2.50 combo special going in my neck of the woods (Kansas City Metro area).
So I went in and got a combo. I got a whole wheat muffin with regular egg, bacon & cheese. The muffin is not made there like there sandwich breads. The eggs are pre-made. Bacon is pre-made. Everything is cold and loaded up on a toaster tray and toasted. Then if you like you can load it up with any of there usual sandwich fixins.
The coffee is Seattles Best coffee (That is the brand, NO it is NOT Starbucks!). 16 oz.
Well I was disappointed. The sandwich was lukewarm at best and the coffee taste funny (Not in a good funny way). The cheese was hardly melted. Muffin still cold and untoasted. Bacon cold and the worst of it was the cold eggs. I wasn't expecting much from Subway due to there limited cooking appliances but, they could have done WAY better.
Here is a suggestion. Put the bacon and egg in the microwave like they do with they other hot items like BBQ Chicken and at the same time toast just the muffin and cheese. Then combine the steaming hot egg and bacon on the TOASTED muffin with melted cheese.
The coffee deal might be a brewing issue. Because I now find a large amount of coffee grinds at the bottom of my cup as I write this. I am not a big fan of Seattles Best but, this wasn't the coffee's fault. I believe it was the makers.
Maybe the toaster was not turned up to the proper setting. I think it was but, there was to much stuff to heat. So I got semi-melted cheese on untoasted muffin. With cold egg & bacon. The procedure I describe for making it is just like a hot chicken or steak sandwich procedure except I think you can go ahead and toast muffin and melt cheese. Not wait to add hot egg & bacon. Then toast. If the egg and bacon is on there you lose to much surface area on the muffin to toast. Might even want the sandwich artist to rub the knife they use to slice muffin in margine or butter to help the toasting.
I might try again at another store sometime but, right now McDonald's has them beat. And breakfast is the ONLY thing I like from McDonald's!
PS I have NO followers and not many visits here. I just vent on it. If Subway has issue with me using there image (Good or bad it is still getting their name out!) just e-mail me and it will go bye bye. I know most corporate law firms are doing there darnest to shut down all free press and I am against that but, I am to broke to fight anyone.
